This Privacy Policy explains how Fermi Strategies, Inc. and its affiliates, if any, referred to in this Policy as Fermi Strategies, Search990, we, us, or our, collect, use, disclose, and protect information in connection with the Search990 website, related interfaces, documentation, data displays, research tools, and AI-assisted features, collectively the Site.

Search990 is a public nonprofit research and discovery tool built on public nonprofit filing and grant disclosure data. This Policy covers information collected through your use of the Site. It does not change the public status of IRS filings, Form 990 and Form 990-PF records, public grant disclosures, or other public source records displayed or referenced by the Site.

By using the Site, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, you should not use the Site.

We collect information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the Site, information stored locally in your browser, and information from public or third-party sources.

Search990 displays and organizes public records, including IRS Form 990 and Form 990-PF filings and public grant disclosure data. These records may include information about nonprofit officers, directors, trustees, key employees, contractors, grant recipients, and other individuals or entities named in public filings.

Because public filings are created, submitted, released, amended, and corrected by third parties and government sources, Search990 may display information that is delayed, incomplete, duplicated, outdated, inconsistently formatted, or later changed at the source. We use automated processing to normalize and connect records, but users should verify important information against the original source filings or other authoritative records.

If you believe public-record information displayed on Search990 is inaccurate or should be reviewed, you may contact us. We may point users to the source record, add context, update derived displays when source data changes, or take other action we consider appropriate, but we do not control the underlying public filing systems.

Search990 may use semantic search, keyword search, embeddings, HNSW indexes, ranking systems, summarization, and AI-assisted generation to retrieve and explain nonprofit and grant data. When you use these features, your prompts, search terms, selected context, retrieved records, and related metadata may be processed to return results and improve the reliability of the feature.

Do not submit confidential, privileged, sensitive, or personal information unless it is necessary for your use of the Site and you have the right to provide it. AI-assisted outputs may be incomplete or incorrect and should be checked against source records before being relied on.

We may use cookies, local storage, session storage, server logs, and similar technologies to operate the Site. These technologies help us keep users signed in, remember preferences, store research state locally, protect the Site from abuse, understand usage, and improve performance.

You can adjust browser settings to block or delete cookies and local storage, but some features may not work correctly. The Site may not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Where legally required, we will honor applicable opt-out preference signals or provide a way to exercise applicable choices.

We do not sell personal information for money. We may disclose information in the following circumstances:

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Site, maintain accounts, support research features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, enforce agreements, and improve the Site. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information, the feature used, legal requirements, and operational needs.

Some research state may be stored locally in your browser and can be deleted by clearing site data or using available in-product controls. Public nonprofit filing data is retained according to our data pipeline, source availability, and research product needs, and may remain available even if it includes information about individuals named in public records.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for using a secure device, protecting your account credentials, and notifying us if you believe your account or information has been compromised.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or portability of certain personal information, and to object to or opt out of certain processing. You may also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights.

To make a privacy request, contact us at hello@fermistrategies.com. We may need to verify your identity and request before responding. Some information may be exempt from deletion or correction, including information we must retain for legal, security, operational, or public-record reasons.

Certain U.S. state privacy laws require additional disclosures. The categories of personal information we may collect are described in Section 2. The purposes for collection and use are described in Section 3. The categories of third parties to whom we disclose information are described in Section 7.

We do not currently sell personal information for money. We do not knowingly use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would require a right to limit under California law. If our practices change in a way that creates additional opt-out rights, we will update this Policy and provide the required choices.

Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law. We may require proof of authorization and identity verification. If we deny a request, residents of states that provide appeal rights may appeal by replying to our decision email or contacting hello@fermistrategies.com with Privacy Appeal in the subject line.

The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. Those jurisdictions may have data protection laws different from those in your location.

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Site, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to review and remove it.

The Site may link to third-party websites, public filing systems, data providers, or other services. This Policy does not apply to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy, security, or content practices.

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated Policy on the Site and update the effective date. Your continued use of the Site after an updated Policy is posted means that you acknowledge the updated Policy.
